How to set up your DOE studies in Moldflow Insight?

I think Design of Experiments (DOE) is one of the most underutilized aspects of Moldflow Insight.
 
A DOE can be added to the end of most studies or can be launched with a new study. The setpoints from the Process Settings (mold and melt temperatures, fill control, VP switchover, pack/hold control) serve as the mid-point values of your DOE. 
 
Within the DOE builder, you have the option to run a Parametric or DOE. If you choose DOE, you have additional options like Single Variable, Taguchi, Variable Responses, or Variable Influences then Responses. If you are new to DOE, I would suggest running a Taguchi. I usually run Variable Influences then Responses to get my 2nd order interactions between variables.
 
Next, you can set your high and low values for each process setting. I usually like to keep these ranges small to avoid short shots.
 
You can then select your Quality Criteria and weight each value based on what is important to you. Don’t forget to add Critical Dimensions, Flatness, or Roundness values to your Quality Criteria.
